OLANMA: BATTLE TIME

The day came and twenty men came ready for the journey to Obanga. They met the King who had woken up before the first crow of the cock. King Agu spoke with the men, he promised each man going for the battle a handsome reward when they return. Ikuku gave each warrior a small item which is suppose to be for their protection. Obanga was four days away from Ekimze. The men took supplies and made arrangements to stop at ally villages to rest and feed their horses. Three nights had passed and Obanga was finally in sight. The men broke into groups as planned. One group was to locate the princess and rescue her, another was to engage any opposition and the other were to lay in wait to ambush pursuers. Locating the princess wasn't hard a task. The warriors were experienced and knew where to start. Olanma the princess was in the palace of Obanga and she didn't seem to be a prisoner. She was sitting under a tree with her maids singing while her hair was being made.

OLANMA: BATTLE CRIES

"My people, my people, calm down. Let us treat this matter with caution. Should we go to battle or let our princess be where she is?" Chief Arinze asked. "Let's go to battle" echoed the men. Their response was like a balm to the King's heart. He was happy that the people were behind him and they want to see their princess return. The commander of the warriors informed the men that they ride for Obanga in two days. This time was for men to go back and be with their families and for some others to go have a rethink. "We shall assemble at the village square in two days. We cannot determine our fate once we leave the boundaries of Ekimze. We don't want weak hearted men in this battle, so go home and think about it." Ikemba said. The King dismissed the people and sat to discuss with his chiefs.

THE GROWING YEARS: CRUSH AND BE CRUSHED

Jake's doom was looming but he kept fantasizing about Titi. The fantasy had risen to the point of hallucination. Oh poor Jake! All these would soon come to an end. Had he known better, he would have prepared himself for the fall. One evening, he was walking across a football pitch. It was getting dark but he could notice two figures, a male and a female standing against a goal post. Jake recognized the lady by her dress. Oh no! It can't be what he is seeing. His Titi was in the arms of another man. He was confused. Should he confront the guy? No, that won't be wise. What should he do? The right thing, to walk away. Jake went home dejected. His lost appetite and all excitement. "Why would see betray me like that?" he thought. His whole evening was filled with such thought and he slept in the midst of this messed up thought. Next morning, he woke up with a fever. He had over stressed his brain the day before and his body couldn't hold it together anymore. Hi...

OLANMA: TRUTH UNVEILED

Ikuku the priest had walked in while Chief Arinze was speaking. He looked at the king in a way that says the gods have approved, it is time to let the people know the truth. The king understood the look but lacked the strength to say the truth. He then requested Ikuku to tell the people the story. "My good people of Ekimze land" Ikuku started. "Some of you know how long the king stayed childless and how necessary it was that he produces a heir. The king sought the face of the gods, and they answered him. The gods sent a child, who is not just an ordinary child but a diviner. Olanma the princess is a connection between the living and the dead. It is possible that the people who took her and her maids have known this truth, we don't know. I have consulted with the gods and they said the princess is in the land of Obanga." "What?!" exclaimed the king. The people of Obanga are regarded as non humans, cannibals and an abomination. Nobody have had dealing...

OLANMA: WHY NOW?

"Your majesty, may your reign be long." Arinze, one of the chiefs said. "It is a very unfortunate happening. We are all shocked that our princess has been taken. Adaku cannot tell us who the men were and Ikuku the priest is yet to hear the voice of the gods. Your majesty, in all my years in this village and even to the days of my fathers and their fathers before them, nothing of such has happened. We are peace loving people and have never had dispute with neighbouring communities. Who would have done this and why?" He ended and took his sit. Arinze had served in the court of the King's father. He is regarded as the wisest man in the village because of his age and experience. He had suspected that something must be unique about the princess and he wanted the king to provide an answer before their sons be sent for war.

OLANMA: STOLEN TREASURE

The town crier's voice rents through the still atmosphere. This was when the weary bodies of men and women laid on their raffia mats. "It has happened! People of Ekimze, it has happened! The lion's cub has been taken and the whole pride sleeps. Where are the men? Where are our warriors? Our wives and children are not safe anymore", he cried as he walked through the bush path. Men sprang out of bed, women tied sucklings on their backs to stop them from crying, and grown children kept the little ones inside the huts. The chiefs were already at the palace as the men of the village thronged into the court. The king came into the court with a look of one whom the gods had told will die a miserable death. "My only daughter, your princess has been taken. She and her maids were going to the river to wash themselves when they were attacked. Adaku, one of her maids had stopped to relieve herself when this happened. She returned to inform us of this ugly event." th...
