THE UNTHINKABLE 6

By “My dear child”, she spoke with a voice evidently blessed with age, but it sounded graceful. “Yes mother” her daughter responded. “This is the experience of all those who in Christ. They must decide to let go of the world and their addictions. They must accept the love of Christ by accepting him. Once that is done, they become bound to Christ and are one with Him, body, soul and spirit. It can be likened to marriage, where a woman must, if she is to be joined to her love, detach herself from her family, friends and any other commitment that would be contrary to her marriage. If she must be joined to him, she must be separated from others. It’s not an easy thing to do and that’s why one must count the cost if one must pay the price.  Jesus will only come into our hearts as long as we let Him. He gently knocks and waits for us to respond. On the other hand, the devil also knocks and would also come in as long as we let him in. He does not ...

THE UNTHINKABLE 5

The day came swiftly and beautifully.  The birds chirped sweetly in the trees. They seemed to know that the day was special. The whole town had gathered in the church. As the organist played signalling that the bride was to come in, the realisation dawned: She was about to get married! MARRIED! Forever! To one person, as against the whole world! She would no longer be committed to any other or every other but to just this one. She had her habits, her hobbies, her addictions; but she would be letting all of them go, just for this one man. She’d be separated from her mother forever, her childhood home, her friends, her fantasies…. She felt the tears trickle down. She was glad she wore a veil. But she was in love. She loved him and with love she could do even this, though unthinkable, she could let them go. As she took each step, she mentioned in her heart the name of all the things she was attached to, and she let them go. By the time she reached his side she had mention...

THE UNTHINKABLE 4

It was now only a day to the wedding and her mother, her only surviving family sang to her. It was a lullaby and her mother often sang it to her when she was little. She enjoyed the lullaby especially the fact that it was her mother that sang. Her voice was sweet and calm and it made her feel like a child. There was a knock on the door and she went to it. When she opened the door, her heart stopped beating, her face flushed and the hairs on the back of her neck stood up. It was him! Suddenly her heart resumed its duty, but this time, it beat faster, her hands trembled and her throat became dry. He asked politely to be let in and she responded by ushering him in. Her mother excused herself leaving the room to the couple. She sat speechless and he wondered at her frame. He informed her that they would be moving to another country after the wedding but all she could do was nod.  When he was done, he asked if he could leave to which she responded with another nod. When he was at the d...

THE UNTHINKABLE 3

She jerked at the knock on the door. It was horribly loud. She could have screamed at the knocker, but she went to the door quietly. She opened the door and frankly, to her dismay it was one of them again. He had come to mock her, she mused. Before she could say a word, he grabbed her by the waist. ‘Oh no! Why the waist? Not the waist!’ she said within her. She tried to break free but he knew her too well. They had a past and he was determined on making it into the present. She fought him with all her might but she knew he would win, he always won and he did. After he had gone, she felt miserable, used and cheap. Most of all, she felt guilty. She WAS guilty. She was betrothed to her love but she had let her mocker, her past, in. She gave him an inch but he took a mile. She opened her door to him and he went into her. She wasn’t the type to cry but she did.

The whole irony of the matter boiled down to that: MARRIAGE! She never dreamt of it. No one believed her when she broke the news. No one had ever trusted her to be true to a commitment, and no one even wanted to find out. Yet again, she couldn’t hide the fact or resist the thought: ‘She had met someone; he had captured her heart, not like the others had done, no! He didn’t pretend to be who he wasn’t, he didn’t lie, he didn’t want her body but he wanted her heart; he wouldn’t misuse it even if she gave it to him; he didn’t make her feel high like the others had done, instead, he made her feel true, pure and able to love him. She couldn’t deny it: she had fallen in love, for only love could make her do the unthinkable.
