FIVE YEARS GONE Her night was restless, she was sweaty and her tongue was dry. She was not unfamiliar with this feeling but she doubted that her guess could be correct. She went to see the doctor the next day and he told her she needed to rest more and stop stressing. She did as he suggested and for the next few days, she slept fine until it was her birthday night.  She heard the mumblings again, this time, they were more than mumblings, they were clearer. They wanted his daughter. The newly born baby girl that is fatherless was now their new fancy and they wanted her, she would please them. She couldn’t understand what they were asking her to do. And why were there so many voices now? She first only heard her baby sister’s voice and now it seemed like they were a legion of voices. She stood at the door frozen from what she saw. She didn’t mean to see what she saw, she didn’t mean to walk in unannounced, and she didn’t even know what she was doing there. He didn’t see her, none of them did. It didn’t matter that they didn’t see her, the fact that she saw them… him, was enough. She didn’t have to see him.                                         * She grew up like any other child.
