A PAGE OF THEIR LIVES: YINKA

YINKA “ I promise you guys, this party is going to be lit! ” Tade screamed across the room he shared with Sam and Tony.   They were freshmen and this was going to be their first party in the university. Each guy was so keen on making an impression so that they could live out the rest of their time in school as cool guys. “ Hey Sam ” Tade called out while walking towards him. He winked at Sam right before whispering some words to him. They both laughed while Tade put on more deodorant. “ The girls are going die if they ever get close to you Tade. Ease off on the deodorant bruv. ” Tony said in between a smile and a frown. Later that night at the party, the guys were not having any luck with any of the ladies. It was as if everyone knew that they were trying too hard to blend in and be cool. Sam finally got talking with a girl he spotted standing alone. She seemed really shy and as though it was her first time at a party. She couldn’t look straight into his eyes and...

A POEM

FINAL MOMENT (INSPIRED BY CHADWICK BOSEMAN) I can only imagine: The moment you noticed something wasn't right, I can only imagine: The moment you waited to get the results back, I can only imagine: The moment your heart shattered after the results came in, I can only imagine The moment you told yourself, "I can beat this, i am a fighter" I can only imagine : The moments of countless surgeries and therapies, in between, you had to keep filming and doing what you knew how to do best, because you told yourself "this can't put me down, I can only imagine: The moments you got struck so hard, but you had to stay strong, covered it up with your usual smile and no one noticed, I can only imagine : The moment you got the results back and was told it had progressed to "stage iv" I can only imagine: The moment you knew, "i can't beat this" but i will use the time I have to leave foot prints in the sands of time, I can only imagine : The moment you w...

A PAGE OF THEIR LIVES: DEMI

Image
“ I’m sorry for keeping this from you all these years. Everyone told me to inform you about our son but knowing the kind of man that are; I chose to raise him alone. Don’t even think about judging me, you are no saint yourself. I did not write this letter to seek your forgiveness, I wrote it to warn you. Even though I do not regret raising our son alone, I do regret not telling him about you. Whenever he asked, I’d tell him that you were dead because in a sense, you are dead to me. He now knows about you and wants to meet you. It’s your decision whether or not to meet him but know that our son Demi, is ill and doesn’t often do well with rejection… ” Before he could finish reading the letter, there was a knock on the door. His Secretary walked in and informed him that he had an unscheduled visitor. Trying to get a grip of reality, he motioned on her to let the person in. A young, lanky –looking man walked into the office. His head was hung low and his gaze avoidant. He sniffed...

A PAGE OF THEIR LIVES: BETTY

Image
“Betty, just know that even though my son married you, you will never be welcomed as one of us in this family. Never!” Betty’s mother in-law bellowed at her.  Her words made Betty sick to her stomach. All she wanted to do, all she ever dreamed of was getting married to Steven and be happy with him. She didn’t care whether or not he was of another tribe, race or political class. “Why couldn’t his mother see that? Why wasn’t she accepted here?”  ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- “Nurse Betty you are needed in the maternity ward. The woman who gave birth through CS needs her medication and scar checked” Dina informed her. Dina was a very sweet friend to Betty; she always helped Betty whenever she was in need and always provided a listening ear. This time around, Betty didn’t know how to tell Dina that her mother in-law hated her and had earlier on threatened to make her son leave her for someone she found more befitting of their f...

A PAGE OF THEIR LIVES: ROSE

Image
ROSE Just a little touch-up and her makeup was done. She scanned through the room to find her dress. There it was, hanging ever so beautifully. Her favourite parts of the dress were the sequined parts. She had always loved sequins; ever since the day her mother wore a sequined mermaid dress to a dinner party, she just couldn’t get over it. The way it dazzled in the night light and patterned itself neatly to angle out her curves made Rose its captive. It was beautiful and had to be a part of her wedding dress. No one could change her mind. “ Sammy no! Don’t go there! ” Nora screamed. It was too late; little Sammy, Nora’s son placed his strawberry coloured candy hands on her dress as he tried to break his fall. Rose shut her eyes and hoped it was all a dream. She opened her eyes and it was there. Tiny pink hands, 2 palms, 10 fingers, all there and with an extra smudge by the side to go with it. She couldn’t breathe. She couldn’t see. Her dress was ruined! She woke up to frantic f...

DEAR HUMAN

Image
Dear Human, It would be hilarious to ask how you are doing because I already know, so I'll go straight to the point.  I am not pleased with you Human. You act as if I don't exist by the many things you do and say and honestly it's embarrassing.  Here's the reason I'm writing this letter. Amongst all the silly things you do, this one really upsets me. Why do you blurt out unprocessed opinions? You refuse to allow them pass through my scrutiny before you engage the services of the increasingly tired oral(mouth) cavity. Yes! It's getting tired of having to help you spew out your many unnecessary blabbings.  For instance, the other day you saw your childhood friend and all you did was conjure up a very embarrassing comment. I mean how do you see a person for the first time in many years and say "Na wa o! See as you fat! You no dey gym?" WHY? You need to use me more often. If you had used me to process what you were going to say, I would have told you to st...

A PAGE OF THEIR LIVES -1

Image
UNKNOWN He walked into the classroom, head hung low from the shame he had always went into the class with. He could no longer sew the torn parts of his uniform as they had gotten to the point of no return. Everyone who saw him pointed at the very conspicuous tear just above his knee, while some laughed at him, others pitied him, and on days like this he really wanted to hide away. The teachers were more understanding and had ceased in trying to enquire about his less-than-expected look. They all just let him be.  No one understood what was going on in his life. No one really wanted to know. The last person he confided in told half of the class about his problems and this made him feel low.  It didn’t help that he would have to hawk in his uniform after school and watch as his classmates stared at him while being driven home in big beautiful cars. It didn’t help that he was falling back on his grades because he couldn’t get enough sleep and would often fall asleep in class. It ...

IT'S BEEN A SECOND!

Image
Wheeew! It's been a second! I'll be honest and say why I left. The views were not encouraging. I felt as if I was wasting my time, thinking up and working on getting cool stories and had to grapple with dwindling page views. I'm not one to run around trying to fish for views and comments but I did that and it still didn't yield any results, so I just left. lol. You can't run away from your passion! It will always find you. ☺ So here I am, once again, giving it another go but this time not for the page views but just because I enjoy telling tales and expressing imaginations.  If you happen to stumble on this and you read the stories and like them, you may choose to leave a comment, like it and share or not. It's fine.  I'm currently working on a series of new micro fictions with the title in the picture.  Can you guess what I'm aiming at?  Let's wait and see.
