THE OTHER WAY ROUND (4)
The
bus wasn’t moving fast enough. He wished, no, he prayed the bus would move a
little bit faster. The other passengers could feel his anxiety and he was really
letting it show.
Zucan
was running away from home; he was running away from his mother; his mind
couldn’t imagine what she would do if she found out what he did. Or what if she
has already found out? He didn’t do much to cover up what he did, all he did
was to turn his back and run. “Oh! His poor father, his blood pressure is sure
to rise from this one” he thought. “How could he be so foolish?” he beat
himself up the more.
At
home, his parents were terrified both at what their son had done and the fact
that he had run away. They found it hard to believe that their son was capable
of such a thing.
Mother: This was entirely your fault! Yes! You spoil him too much. Now see what he has done.
Father: How can you
say that? My fault how? All I have ever done is to raise him up while you were
always at the office. Where were you when he was growing up?
Mother: Oohh! Now you
want to blame me for his stupidity eh? We both know which side of the family he
got it from. And don’t you dare tell me that I did not raise up our son. I am
the one who put clothes on his back, on your back as well! You think that
taking care of the house can be compared to what I do? You must be kidding.
Father: I do my best.
I try a lot around here even if you are blind to the fact. This is beside the
point, our son is missing and I wonder what sort of danger he is in now.
Mother: Well I suggest
you find him. Your son is a disgrace!
Father: My son? My
son? When a child does something bad, he automatically becomes my son. Wow!
It’s good to see how much you care. See...
you have to let go of this local mentality.
Mother: I like it that way. This is how
I grew up to meet the society, let it remain that way.
