OGA BOSS 1

I was doing one of my tasks as an office assistant as I would every other working day, when I got a usual call from my boss, a call that would later turn my life on his head. I took a quick glance at my old worn out wrist watch, one that was given to me as a birthday gift from an old friend. It was 1.30pm, the exact time I was supposed to go get Mr. Sunny, my boss’s his lunch. Since I knew he didn’t like been kept waiting, I quickly dropped the papers I was holding, and headed straight to his cubicle that lay at the right end of our squared office. As I walked to his direction, I arranged my tie, adjusted my belt and ensured I was neat. He always wanted everyone to look his best, and would always remind us that hard work and neatness are pre-requisite for promotion and pay rise in his establisment.
I had reached his glass door and noticed his head was buried into a file he probably was working on before he called on me. It was a custom that we do not call his attention when we stood at his door, it was his job to notice us and then he would raise up a hand for us to speak. And so I waited for his gesture. And as I waited, I decided to observe his office because I had always felt that someday, I would own an office of my own. So once in a while, I would peep into his office to savour the sight of leadership, to re-create a picture of my kind of life as a boss in my mind. And although I valued his taste for paintings, and his office design, I have never liked the way his files were always scattered everywhere.
Solomon” he called.
Yes sir...Good day” I replied as I stammered through my greetings.
He looked at me as he always would with his lips posing like he was doing a yimu, sometimes I always wished I could give him a slap, wish he knew how much I hated that. He looked at me with so much gut, so different from his old ways, and I was becoming uncomfortable because I have read in the papers and listened to the news about the rapid growth of men who loved men. I had a good woman in my life, Yemi, and I was sure she wouldn’t approve of this looks, even if it was from a man.
How much do you earn?” he asked when he was done eye-weighing me.
Thirty thousand sir.” I had replied smiling out of proportion.
The last time Mr. Sunny asked for my pay status, he gave me a pay rise of five thousand. And with this, I knew I had arrived, I knew this was that moment when I stepped up my brand of drinks and food, my creams and maybe perfumes. I was certain my salary will no longer be same with my age; henceforth I would embrace a new salary that was older than me.
So how come you are adding weight with such meager salary ehh” his face had turned from its normal yellow state to red.
I really did not understand his question, and what I was to answer him was even more difficult. I was fast to joke that it was God’s work and good rest that should be held accountable for my gain in weight.
Ok… then let God and good rest continue to fatten you. Since you have continued to fatten yourself from the monies you stole from the accountant’s drawer” He added seeming furious. And before I could swallow the chunk of saliva that had gathered in my mouth, he poured out, “you are hereby relieved of your duties as an office assistant” as he spoke he handed me a letter I suppose was my sack letter.
