ACCEPTANCE 3
I finally got the courage to tell him to get up. He did. I then told him to take me home so we could talk and he calmly obliged. By the way, i'm guessing that Tobe had no hand in what happened from the look on his face. I think he was more shocked than I was cos he was still holding his spoonful of soup halfway to his mouth.
As we left the restaurant, I could have died in shame for I felt the sea of heads piercing their eyes into my back probably wondering like me, what had happened.
When we got to my apartment, I offered him some water. I was a little shaky and some of my coordination took a hike that evening. When I finally got settled, I explained to him the reason why I hadn’t given him a reply to his proposal; I didn’t want to embarrass him. I also told him that I couldn’t get married to him and I gave him my reasons. He sat there motionless, having no readable expression on his face. I decided to give him time to process things so I stood to go to the kitchen but he stopped me and tried to kiss me. I pulled away and thought that the evening couldn’t get any worse. I searched his face but I still couldn’t read anything, this was unsettling. So I told him that I was going to my room and that he could leave whenever he was up to it. As I turned to leave, I felt a painful smack at the back of my head. While I tried to get a hold of myself from staggering, there was another hit to my calf. This time I fell. I fell hard with my face hitting the floor. I begged him to stop but it seemed like he wasn’t hearing me. He seemed like he was out of this world. And I was soon to be out of it myself.
