ACCEPTANCE

There are only two people in my life that I can call friends: Dare and Tobe. They are the nicest guys on earth and I love them as if they were my blood. They both have the propensity to act all big brother-like to me and I let them. It gives me a sense of safety.
Our history dates back to our days as undergraduates. I had just arrived campus as the latest jambite and was at a loss on how to locate my department. I had tried to get directions from some students but they all seemed to be in a hurry and the ones who weren’t, had no clue. I’m guessing it must have been as a result of the heroin I smelled in some of their breaths. I wondered about the large premises for a while before I stumbled into the duo. Luckily for me, they were both in my department and in the same level as me. They not only took me to the department, they also brought me up to speed on classes, notes I had missed and they gave me a tour of the university.
Tobe was a light-skinned young man who wore a pair of weird looking glasses. He had a lanky frame that didn’t quite sit right with the size of his hands, which were obviously too big for his body. He also had a funny accent that went in between igbo and an American accent. I figured that he was just trying to put up an appearance for me since we just met for the first time. And there was no ignoring how tall he was, he seemed like a giant to me; maybe it’s because I’m only 5.4. He  had a calm demeanor, he was warm, receptive and seemed compassionate. I liked him the moment I saw him.
Dare on the other hand, was a typical jovial, everybody’s-guy, life of the party type of person. He was the supplier of jokes and fun. There was going to be no dull moment with him. Unlike Tobe, he was dark in complexion and had a smaller frame. For a moment when I first saw them, I thought their combination seemed awkward. He was handsome nonetheless and I was somewhat attracted to him even though I somehow felt something was missing in his eyes...
