WHAT IF? 3

Amiya felt untold horror when her husband fell to the ground. He looked dead. His whole body was up in flames and soon she would be. Just then, she recalled her last death scene, this was no joke, this time it was real; she was dying for real this time, she could feel the flames eating into her skin and her hair, the pain was unimaginable, she felt all of it. She too was now on the floor engulfed by thick flames and smoke. Their once peaceful home that held pleasant but now burning memories tore apart and caved in on them.

She jolted to reality and almost fell off her rocking chair. She looked around her and saw Goose bumps all over her body. She felt sick, she must have been really ill to have been having night mares in the day time. It wasn't funny anymore and she was determined to do something about it so she got up and made her way to the temple: the place of worship and prayers, the place of succour and spiritual guidance. She knelt down to do her ritual, she knelt down to pray, she knelt down for herself, her husband and her unborn baby who she was now sure was a boy, she knelt down for her people who were persecuted for their faith and for their beliefs, she knelt down to pray that everyone who were blinded by their own beliefs and who hungered for the blood of others who were not of their creed would one day wake up and decide to stop. That they would stop putting an end to the lives of unborn babies, that they would realise that all life is important and should not be voluntarily and willfully taken no matter the height of belief in unseen promises, she prayed that children would grow up to be whoever they wanted to be, she prayed that people would be allowed to live out their years on earth, she prayed that men would have a living conscience, she prayed for peace.
By the time she was done praying, she was weak and breathless for with much tears and fervency did she make known her petitions. She felt the baby move within her and it caused her a little pain. She held on to her stomach and prayed a little more before getting up to leave. On her way out of the temple, Amiya almost fainted when she realised that a band had surrounded the temple and they chanted what Amiya had come to recite by heart. It seemed that someone, a person of like faith as Amiya had spoken against their faith and now they were here to take revenge by burning down the temple with the people in it. Amiya was crippled with shock. She tried to speak but words had taken a trip far away from her so all she could do was cry. She managed to run back into the temple to alert those already inside. They tried to escape but all their efforts proved futile. Then one by one the band took from among them a worshiper and asked them to change their names or die; some of the worshippers refused and in a flash their heads were severed from their bodies and some worshippers agreed but their heads were also severed for they were thought to be of weak will.

Can you guess what's coming next?
