SOMETHING SINISTER 6
At her parents, Jane explained to her parents the reason she had moved her trip up. She knew she would lose her mind if she stayed a while longer and didn't want any of that drama so she ran. Some part of her felt pity for her husband but she was sure he'd be fine. She didn't want to think otherwise.
Back at home, Mark was hell bent on spending a lot of time at the office. He didn't mind returning home late into the night. That way, he'd only spend few hours in the house and he'd be too deep asleep to hear any screech of darkness.
However, to Mark's chagrin he couldn't spend much time in the office. There was a new rule that all staff were to leave the office building by 10pm. It seemed the whole world was against him. His darling wife had deserted him (though he'd prefer it that way), now his office was doing almost the same thing. He recalled his experience the night Jane left for her parents. He had gone to bed with the lights turned on but decided to put them off when he found it difficult to sleep. In no time, he was asleep but somewhere in the night, there was a tick, and then a tuck and just before the crackling could start, he opened up his eyes to find something on the wall smiling at him. He was terribly alarmed. He shut his eyes in disbelief and opened them in fear to find it still there. Mark died a thousand times that night. The goose pimples were back and his heart was about to evade his chest when he looked at the smiling wall. Silly him! It was his wife's stick notes; she had made it into a smiling shape and stuck them to the wall opposite the bed so he'd see them immediately he got up in the morning. He scratched his head, laughed at himself and took down all the stick notes. He wasn't going to risk having a heart attack on another occasion. While he lay on the bed and was being enticed into deep sleep, the clock lulling him even more, his heart froze when he remembered the tick and then the tuck. This was not a good night for Jane to be away.
